Distribution of livestock: The Punjab government has taken an historic step toward women empowerment and the rejuvenation of the livestock sector in southern Punjab. Punjab Minister for Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani on Friday launched the registration process for the distribution of livestock to the eligible women under the scheme. Under this scheme, 11,000 livestock, comprising healthy buffaloes and cows, would be provided to the widow and divorced women so that they get better livelihood and are able to become self-sufficient.

Livestock Distribution Programme Registration Process
The registration process for the livestock distribution programme is now open. Application will be received from poor women of 12 Southern Punjab districts. The programme will be able to empower widowed and separated women to stand on their own feet by providing them livestock as a source of livelihood and gain through milk production. Key officials in attendance comprised Punjab Minister of Livestock Sardar Aasim Makin and Punjab Minister of Livestock Saqib Ali Ateeq, who highlighted the importance of the program for women in rural areas.

Eligibility Criteria:
Definition of the eligibility criteria will serve to ensure the livestock reaches those who need it the most. The applicant must be a woman under 55 years, with a PMT score of less than 32. She must not have received any livestock from other programs in the last five years. Women from disadvantaged groups will receive focus and therefore ensure that this initiative reaches women who would benefit the most from this support.
Applications would be accepted till 10th November, 2024. However, if the number of applications exceeded 100000, then the allotment process would be conducted through e-voting to allow everyone with an application fair treatment.

Supply cattle to the rural women
Such healthy animals as buffaloes and cows will be distributed freely among women under this scheme. This falls within the overall efforts taken by Punjab’s government in uplifting the socio-economic status of the rural women in order to increase milk production in this region.
